Super food or not?

What’s the difference between cacao and cocoa? They are very similar yet very different.

Raw cacao comes from cold pressing unroasted cacao beans which keeps the living enzymes as well as removing the fat, or cacao butter, while cocoa is pressed from raw cacao that’s been roasted at high temps.

This may not seem like a big deal, but it makes big changes in the make up of.

Cacao is high in antioxidants, improves brain function, is good for your heart and can help with headaches. Cacao is great for promoting healthy skin and contains vitamins and minerals.

Due to the process involved with making cocoa, nutrients are stripped of it. This can actually cause weight gain because often times, sugars, milk fat, hydrogenated oils and artificial flavorings are added. Cacao has nothing added and can help promote weight loss.

Cacao is a super food, but cocoa seems not so super even though they look very similar. Choosing raw, unrefined foods is the healthier option when it’s available.
