Healthy Hot Cocoa

Hot drinks are always comforting in colder weather. While hot cocoa is a tasty go-to drink in the winter, some can have a ton of extra sugar on top in addition to not have much if any beneficial nutrients. Here’s a tasty recipe that will satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way.

  • Pour 8oz of boiling water into your favorite mug
  • Add 2 tablespoons raw organic cacao
  • 1 teaspoon oganic maca root
  • 1/4 teaspoon organic turmeric
  •  1/2 teaspoon organic chaga mushroom
  • pinch of organic cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon pure organic maple syrup
  • top off with your favorite milk

Cacao is full of antioxidants, high in iron and magnesium, and contains more calcium than cow’s milk. Cacao also contains serotonin, tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylethylamine which have been shown to be natural mood enhancers.

Maca root has been shown to help elevate energy levels, balance hormones and irregularities, helps give skin a younger, youthful appearance, and can help calm and reduce stress levels.

Turmeric has been shown to be an anti-inflammatory. The curcumin in turmeric helps to boost the activity of your body’s own antioxidant enzymes and it’s been shown to help elevate mood.

Chaga mushroom contains a whole list of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients like vitamind B and D, selenium, zinc, iron, calcium, and several more. They contain antioxidants and have been shown to help lower cholesterol. Chaga mushroom also helps support immunity and fights inflammation.

Cinnamon has also contains antioxidants and been shown to help with inflammation.
